Active ImageHot on the heels of the updated HSV Commodore range comes the all-new FPV family of FG Ford Falcons. New to the line-up is the introduction of the V8-powered GT E luxury saloon plus the addition of more powerful engines across the board – with all models, both six-cylinder and V8 derivatives, now developing in excess of 300kW.

Carrying over from the previous BA range is the six-cylinder F6, Pursuit Utes and the classic GT and GT-P V8 saloons.

With more than two years of development and 29,000 man-hours designing and testing a new generation of performance engines, engineers were able to not only boost power but improve efficiency and fuel-economy.

Most powerful Aussie six ever
The new 4.0-litre six-cylinder F6 turbo delivers a peak output of 310 kW at 5,500rpm and a V8-beating 565Nm of torque between 1,950 and 5,200rpm (up 40kW and 15Nm over the outgoing version).

Improvements to the engine include a new strengthened piston and conrod assembly and a complete re-calibration of the ECU. The inlet and exhaust systems have also been redesigned and the camshaft timing revised. Increased turbocharger boost pressure (13.3psi max) and a lower compression ratio and a bigger intercooler also play a key role in delivering more power, more torque and an improved performance feel.

Despite the increase in power, the F6 boasts fuel consumption figures of 12.3L/100km in manual transmission and 12.1L/100km in automatic guise, a 7% auto and 9% manual increase in fuel efficiency over the previous model. FPV has also made the ZF-sourced six-speed automatic a no-cost option.

Boss V8 now carries 315 designation
V8 fans have also been catered for with the 5.4-litre Boss engine now carrying a ‘315’ designation - a reference to its new 315kW output. Although still shy of the HSV’s 317kW, the new Boss engine eclipses its rival in the torque stakes with 551Nm compared to the Holden’s 550Nm. Engineers also added a new Tremec TR6060 six-speed manual, replacing the previous T56. The
TR6060 is used by Ford in the U.S. in their Mustang range, as well as GM in the Corvette.

Changes to the Boss 315 include new camshaft timing and a new camshaft profile, an increased compression ratio, a twin plate throttle body and manifold plus a higher rev-limit.

Fuel efficiency has also been improved over the outgoing model by 4.8%, now registering at 14L/100km on the mixed cycle.

The new line-up starts off with the entry-level F6 Ute, which is priced from $57,990 and is followed by the V8-powered Pursuit Ute also at $57,990 and the Super Pursuit Ute at $62,990.

The base F6 sedan starts at $65,990 and is followed by the similarly priced GT at $65,990 and premium GT-P at $75,990. Topping the range is the new GT E luxury model, priced from $76,990.

The range is distinguished from the regular Ford XR family by aggressive bodykits, dark headlight accents, unique 19 and 20 inch alloy wheels and titanium mesh grilles.

Inside, the cars feature charcoal trim, sports seats embroidered with FPV logos and a leather sports steering wheel with audio controls as standard. Other features include dual zone air conditioning, front and rear power windows and alloy pedal covers.

Safety in spades with standard Brembo brakes and DSC
For the first time, all models are equipped with Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and side curtain airbags as standard across the range. Other safety features include Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), and four-channel Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), driver and passenger airbags and a seat-belt reminder.

F6 models come standard with FPV’s performance brake package, comprised of 335x32mm front rotors with Brembo four piston calipers and 328x26mm rear rotors with single red piston caliper. V8 models sport more powerful 355x32mm cross-drilled and ventilated front rotors with Brembo 6-piston calipers and 330x28mm cross-drilled and ventilated rear rotors with Brembo 4-piston caliper as standard.

The new range officially goes on sale across the country in June.
