Citroen C4 faceliftThe Citroen C4 hatch has undergone a mild facelift after three years of sales and 900,000 units finding a home worldwide. The updated model is set to make its world debut at October’s Paris International Motor Show before arriving in Australia by the middle of next year.

Updated styling and the introduction of two new petrol engines, co-developed with BMW, underscore the latest changes to the midsize C4 range, giving the car both a more premium look and driving feel.

New premium look and feel
The new model can be distinguished by its restyled front end and updated interior. Overall length has been stretched by 15mm, to a total 4,275mm for the hatchback and 4,288mm for the coupe. New alloy wheels and four new body colours complete the list of changes for the latest update.

Boosting the feeling of quality inside the cabin, the restyled C4 also benefits from an enhanced interior with new velour or leather upholstery together with special paint finishes and a new plastic material for the dashboard and door panels. The rev-counter has also been repositioned to the centre of the dashboard.

Engines co-developed with BMW
The updated C4 also debuts the new EP family of compact four-cylinder petrol engines, which were co-developed with BMW. The first unit, the VTi 120, replaces the 1.6i 16V engine and delivers 88kW from its 1.6-litre displacement. The second unit, the VTi 150, features a turbocharger and delivers 110kW.

Mated to a five-speed manual gearbox, the VTi 120 engine returns 6.7L/100 km (159 g/km of CO2) over a combined cycle, down 6% on the old unit. The VTi 150, meanwhile, returns fuel consumption figures over a combined cycle of 6.9L/100km (for 164 g/km of CO2) – down a full 10% on the previous equivalent engine.

VTi stands for “Variable valve lift and Timing Injection”. Fitted with an aluminium block and cylinder head, the 16 valves are driven by intake and exhaust camshafts with continuously variable valve timing. The intake valves also benefit from a variable raising system that allows the valves’ maximum travel to be adjusted gradually depending on the force applied to the accelerator pedal.

Overseas models still retain the full diesel lineup, featuring 69kW, 82kW and 104kW outputs.

Number of technology upgrades displayed on overseas models
The upgraded C4 has also been given a number of technology upgrades. In Europe the new C4 will be available with Citroen’s new MyWay navigation system, which features a hi-resolution 7-inch colour screen, Bluetooth and USB connectivity as well as an audio system with a built-in 10Gb hard drive.

Specifications and prices for Australian-delivered models, however, will be announced when the car is launched locally in the middle of next year.
