Ford FalconThe all-new Ford FG Falcon today became the first car to offer two new satellite technology features - the Suna Traffic Channel and Sensis Whereis Version 15 map data. These features integrate with the satellite navigation system throughout the Falcon line to offer the latest in traffic and destination information and improve the system’s performance and convenience.

While the two features provide very different functionality, they both cooperate with the car’s routing system to enhance the accuracy and ease with which a course can be selected and negotiated. The Suna Traffic Channel keeps the system up to date with breaking road conditions, including accidents, weather and traffic snarls. The Sensis Whereis Version 15 map data, on the other hand, provides the most current roads and features map content available.

How Suna Traffic Channel works with the onboard sat-nav
Suna Traffic Channel is an implementation of the international Traffic Message Channel (TMC) standard, which encodes and distribute traffic information. The network is broadcast via the Radio Data System, or RDS. Once the information is received by the computer, the system then works out which messages are relevant to the car’s current location and course, alerting the driver to any hazardous or slowed conditions.

The information displayed can include a great deal of detail, including how long the expected traffic delay along a given route may be, the nature of the delay, and even the recalculated arrival time. If the driver chooses, the system can re-route around the obstruction. The system is also highly configurable in how it displays on-screen information.

Advantages of the Sensis Wheres Version 15 map data
The FG Falcon’s GPS is the first implementation of the new Whereis Version 15 map data in an integrated system, and features a number of new and upgraded elements compared to the previous Version 14 map data.

Newly constructed roads, such as the EastLink tollway in Melbourne and the Lane Cove Tunnel in Sydney, are now properly recognised and displayed. The most up to date listing of red light and fixed speed cameras throughout Australia is also included, and the new data also lists the road speed data for most major highways and the metro areas.

The new navigation system is available on all FG Falcon sedans and the FG Falcon Ute XR6, XR6 Turbo and XR8 models. Recommended retail pricing for the option, which includes the Suna Traffic Channel and updated map data is $2,290.
