Cadillac returns to Australia after 70 year absence E-mail

cts_carcentral_560.jpgThe Australian International Motor Show was chosen as the venue for Cadillac to make its official return, where the luxury arm of General Motors showed off its CTS sedan and the CTS Coupe Concept. The CTS sedan will be the first Cadillac to be sold in Australia since the company left in the 1930s.

Aussie-built Holden Caprice headed to South Korea E-mail

Daewoo VeritasHolden has announced today that its Caprice flagship will be exported to South Korea, where it will be sold as the new Daewoo Veritas saloon. Production will remain at Holden’s vehicle assembly plant in Elizabeth, South Australia, with the petrol V6 powering the car to be sourced from the Port Melbourne engine plant.

August sales slow, but industry still just ahead of 2007’s record pace E-mail

Vehicle sales slowed significantly in August on continued high fuel prices, tough luxury car taxes and an increasingly weak dollar but despite the economic pressures on the industry, year-to-date sales are still ahead of last year’s record volume. The outlook for the rest of the year isn’t all roses, however, as the slowing trend is likely to continue due to local and global factors, but Toyota's strong sales continue to buoy the struggling industry.

Ford Australia president Bill Osborne steps down as 350 workers laid off E-mail

ford_osborne_main560.jpgTough times for the economy as a whole and local car manufacturers, in particular, have lead Ford Australia to cut the jobs of 350 workers, or about 15% of the company’s local workforce. At the same time, Bill Osborne, Ford Australia’s CEO is stepping down after just seven months at the helm.

Holden reaches seven million vehicle milestone, describes plans for future E-mail

The milestone vehicle was built at Holden’s Elizabeth plant in South Australia – one of the most flexible plants in General Motors' worldwide operations with 43 models based on six variants of the Commodore manufactured at the site.

Chrysler and Mahindra & Mahindra face off over design dispute E-mail

Chrysler and Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) have been in negotiations over a number of deals since February, including one that could have seen Chrysler sell its Jeep brand to the Indian company. However, a new report indicates that the two are now embroiled in a case of copied designs, with Chrysler accusing M&M of using its vertical-slit front grille design for the Scorpio SUV.
