The humble VW Golf has come a long way over its 30 year history. No longer just an affordable econo-box, the Golf has grown substantially in both size and weight with each new generation and now comes with niceties you’d expect in much more expensive metal.

Despite its budget connotations, VW’s Golf range also gets several new technologies, which most other carmakers are still years away from delivering.

The Volkswagen Group is already one of the most varied consortiums of auto brands in the world, comprising nine different carmakers all up including the likes of Bugatti, Lamborghini, Bentley and Audi to name a few. The auto giant is also on the verge of being taken over by Porsche and now its chairman, Ferdinand Piech, has expressed his desires to expand the group with the addition of a motorbike brand.
