The follow-up to the best-selling Lamborghini of all time has
a lot riding on its shoulders, but by sticking close to its forerunner’s brash
looks and fierce performance while improving on the basic figures, the Gallardo
LP560-4 has ensured its acceptance and success. The growling 560PS (412kW) 5.2-litre
V10 powerplant for which it’s named is the heart of the update, though new
sheet metal and upgraded suspension also play a role in the LP560-4’s arsenal
of performance.
Audi has expanded the TT range by offering a sportier and more luxurious version of the 2.0-litre turbocharged model under its 'S' performance
guise. The new model is aptly named the TTS and is available in both
Coupe and Roadster bodystyles, with prices beginning from $92,900 for
the six-speed manual Coupe and going all the way up to $100,700 for the
Roadster fitted with a six-speed dual-clutch S tronic transmission.
As it winds up its third year of full-scale passenger
vehicle sales following its return to the Australian market, Fiat is broadening
its horizons in the global automotive landscape, announcing partnerships with
BMW and Mini in North America to leverage a return to that market as well. The
cooperation is also expected to spawn a Fiat-designed platform for the next
generation of BMW’s Mini.
The all-new Subaru Exiga seven-seat wagon was released last month in
Japan and the vehicle is now being considered for an Australia release
with local officials currently in negotiations with Subaru’s parent
company back in Japan. The spacious-but-efficient MPV class is already
a tough market, but with fuel prices driving buyers away from larger
vehicles it may be the right time for a sporty new entry.
The all-new Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart, or Galant Fortis as it’s known
in its home market, was unveiled today in Japan. Named for the
company’s in-house tuner arm, the Ralliart offers significantly
upgraded performance over its predecessor thanks to the addition of
all-wheel drive and many other bits of high-tech gear. This places it
firmly in contention with Subaru's WRX - something the old model could
never claim. With its expected low starting price, it could be one of
the performance bargains of the year.
The popular Concept-cX from last year’s Frankfurt Motor Show
was today confirmed for production by Mitsubishi. The new compact crossover
model will be positioned below the company’s popular Outlander 4WD, and will
feature a full-time all-wheel drive system. It will also be the showcase for
Mitsubishi’s coming environmental awareness technologies, including a family of
Euro-5 clean diesel engines.
After a painfully long wait, the next generation of Mitsubishi's giant-killing Lancer Evolution series arrives on Australian shores this month.
Now, in its 10th generation, the new Evo X has been driving fans and enthusiasts crazy with anticipation, but on July 21, the first cars will be available for purchase across the country.
BMW’s Mini brand has been a runaway sales success since the
retro-styled but modern Cooper debuted on the global scene back in
2001. The addition of the first major variation of the regular hatch -
the Clubman estate launched overseas last year - has been
somewhat less warmly received but Mini is determined to release yet
another variant that takes the formula even further afield.
The long-awaited replacement for Honda's NSX supercar is finally nearing completion after several drawbacks, mostly concerning the styling of the new model, caused major delays in its gestation.
Photos of the car seen at the Nurburgring show that the NSX's successor will share little in common with the original's shape or style, and hints that the mechanical layout will be very different as well.
It was only two months ago that Toyota and Subaru confirmed the
joint-development of a new affordable sports car and now we have the first images
of a prototype caught testing in a secret UK location. The
manufacturers have previously said the new car will be sold by both Toyota and
Subaru, although it's likely the Toyota version will be exclusive to
the Japanese market while the Subaru model will be a global version. Neither model has yet been confirmed for Australia.
