The follow-up to the best-selling Lamborghini of all time has
a lot riding on its shoulders, but by sticking close to its forerunner’s brash
looks and fierce performance while improving on the basic figures, the Gallardo
LP560-4 has ensured its acceptance and success. The growling 560PS (412kW) 5.2-litre
V10 powerplant for which it’s named is the heart of the update, though new
sheet metal and upgraded suspension also play a role in the LP560-4’s arsenal
of performance.
Lamborghini has once again teamed up with Italian fashion
house Versace to create a special edition package for its Murcielago LP640
Roadster plus a range of new accessories. Versace, Lamborghini’s Centro Stile
and specialists from the ‘ad personam’ personalisation project worked together
to create the new edition’s unique interior fittings and exterior colour
schemes. Like the Versace Murcielago LP640 revealed two years ago, the Roadster
is expected to be available for Australian delivery upon its release.
To a large extent Lamborghini
exists today because of the Gallardo. While the Murcielago has always remained
the top model in the company’s line-up, it was strong sales of the Gallardo
that allowed it to reach profitability after almost 30 years of
losses.
At the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, just outside Rome,
Italy, BMW unveiled a concept car paying homage to the legendary M1 supercar.
The M1 Homage keeps the classic proportions and essential essence of the M1,
but updates its form to the cutting edge of modern automotive design.
Lamborghini’s new jetfighter-inspired supercar has finally broken cover and
we can now reveal that the €1 million supercar will be called the ‘Reventón.’
The car will be manufactured in a limited run of just 20 copies and is powered
by a 650hp 6.5L V12 engine. Peak torque stands at 660Nm and drive is sent
through the permanent Viscous Traction AWD system via Lamborghini’s e-gear
transmission. As in the original Murciélago LP640, the Reventon accelerates
from 0-100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds and has a maximum speed of over 340km/h.
Supercar brands such as Ferrari and Lamborghini constantly have to deal with the conflict between boosting profits (usually by selling more cars) and retaining exclusivity. In the past, the carmakers have done this be building less cars than their customers demanded. In recent times, they have increased revenues by expanding their core operations. There are 6 items tagged with Lamborghini. You can view all our tags in the Tag Cloud
