The GT-R is back. This month’s Sydney Motor Show will play host to the
official sales launch of the much-hyped Japanese supercar, with the
first pre-sales taking place at the show on October 9. First
deliveries, however, won’t start until April next year.
Few cars carry as much interest as the Bugatti Veyron, famous for its
ultra-high price tag, striking looks and other-worldly speeds. Now, an
even more exclusive ‘roofless’ version dubbed the Veyron 16.4 Grand
Sport has been revealed at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance
motoring event in California.
The follow-up to the best-selling Lamborghini of all time has
a lot riding on its shoulders, but by sticking close to its forerunner’s brash
looks and fierce performance while improving on the basic figures, the Gallardo
LP560-4 has ensured its acceptance and success. The growling 560PS (412kW) 5.2-litre
V10 powerplant for which it’s named is the heart of the update, though new
sheet metal and upgraded suspension also play a role in the LP560-4’s arsenal
of performance.
The era of epic supercars is certainly not over at Aston Martin, with
the release today of an official teaser for a new flagship model that’s
set to enter production in an extremely exclusive run of just 77 cars.
Talk of a new Aston supercar dates back more than a year, with the
first official hint coming as far back as March 2007 when the
carmaker’s CEO, Dr. Ulrich Bez, threw up the name ‘DBX.’
Alfa Romeo's legendary history both on and off the track places it among the greats in the industry, and in celebration of that heritage the carmaker will build a new special edition of its latest 8C Competizione supercar. The new car will simply be called the 8C GTA and it’s expected to be unveiled on June 24, 2010, the 100th anniversary of the carmarker’s founding in Milan, Italy.
The long-running partnership between Mercedes-Benz and
sports car arm of British company McLaren will not be renewed when it expires
in 2009, but before it ends the two will collaborate on one final project, a speedster version of their SLR supercar. These high-resolution photographs and a video of a prototype testing at Germany's benchmark Nurburgring test track reveal a car that will please purists and collectors alike.
American supercar manufacturer Shelby Supercars, or SSC, isn’t as well
known as the likes of Bugatti, Ferrari or Lamborghini, but it’s a
special company for several reasons. In addition to holding the world
record for the fastest production car, the company has just announced
it’s developing an all-electric version of its Ultimate Aero supercar
(pictured) that it hopes will become the world’s fastest electric
vehicle (EV).
The long-awaited replacement for Honda's NSX supercar is finally nearing completion after several drawbacks, mostly concerning the styling of the new model, caused major delays in its gestation.
Photos of the car seen at the Nurburgring show that the NSX's successor will share little in common with the original's shape or style, and hints that the mechanical layout will be very different as well.
Owning a Bugatti Veyron is an experience only a handful of the world’s
richest will be able to enjoy. The car’s mega-dollar price tag and
limited production run of just 300 cars worldwide – all in left hand
drive – means even fewer Australians will ever get to own the superlative ridden
supercar, famous for accelerating faster than an F1 car and capable of
reaching speeds in excess of 400km/h.
While Audi may not be the first to offer LED (Light-Emitting-Diode)
headlights – that title goes to Lexus with its LS600h hybrid saloon –
the Ingolstadt-based carmaker is now offering the world’s first
full-LED headlights in a production vehicle.
