Hyundai launched its new Genesis Coupe in the Korean market
at an event on Jeju Island, Korea. The coupe follows on the heels of the the
Genesis sports sedan, which was launched in South Korea and the U.S. earlier
this year. While the sedan is focused on luxury, the new Genesis Coupe gives
Hyundai some added sporting credentials thanks to its performance-focused
front-engine rear-wheel-drive architecture.

Ford has released images of its new
high-performance Focus RS hatch ahead of its debut planned for
the London Motor Show on July 22. The RS won’t go on
sale until early next year, however, and is yet to be confirmed for an Australian
launch.
The first official images of Kia’s new Forte sedan have been released,
giving us a preview of the vehicle that is set to replace the current
Cerato at the end of the year. Forte is the new name of the overseas
model, which will go on sale in its home market of South
Korea by the middle of the year.
The bulk of Porsche’s vaunted 911 range will be getting
updates through the end of the year as the German carmaker works to keep pace
with new competitors from Japan and the United States. A range of new
technologies and new engines will be the focus of the updates but, as these spy
images show, exterior styling changes will be minimal, even for the potent 911
Turbo and Turbo Cabrio models.
Mini has announced the availability of its highest-performance Cooper variant, the John Cooper Works (JCW) series, for Australian sale. The special-edition car adds power and style to the efficient and capable small hatchback and mini-estate, however it won’t be applied to the current Cabrio as the car is due for an update to the new Mk II platform early next year.
The move by Holden to cease production of its aging ‘Family II’
four-cylinder engine and focus on its new globally-viable HF V6 engine
is seen as the biggest indication that the 3.6L engine could be used in more
applications including a new Aussie-built small car.
Bentley has given its Continental Flying Spur saloon a mid-life cycle update, and has added the all-new ‘Speed’ performance model to the range. The new 447kW Flying Spur Speed, based heavily on the similar twin-turbo W12 GT Speed coupe, is officially the most powerful four-door car ever produced by Bentley and it’s headed to Australia later in the year along with the rest of the updated range.
The new Alfa Romeo Mi.To hatchback is already confirmed for Australian
sale by the middle of 2009, but there
could be another more stylish variant also due for a local launch. The
car is the rumoured Mi.To cabrio, previewed here in this latest
computer generated rendering.
Hyundai is launching a diesel assault on the Australian market, with
the introduction of two new diesel powertrains for its updated Sonata and Grandeur sedans due in the third quarter of this year.
