EU establishes frequency for vehicle-to-vehicle communications

gm_v2v_carcentral_560.jpgThe European Union has taken the first major steps to establishing a next-generation vehicle-to-vehicle communications system by passing a motion today to reserve an EU-wide frequency band for vehicle applications. With a targeted goal of reducing road accidents, the motion aims at enabling co-operative systems between carmakers and is expected to lead to an eventual roll-out of the first production examples shortly after 2010.

Ford could offload Volvo despite public denials
volvo_v70_main_560_01.jpgOnce the jewel in the crown of Ford’s global empire, the now defunct Premier Auto Group (PAG), which at its height included premium brands such as Aston Martin, Jaguar and Land Rover, has been systematically dismantled over the past two years as Ford attempts to improve its financial situation. The last remaining constituent of the PAG, Volvo, has been the subject of much speculation over its future in the Blue Oval and new comments from CEO Alan Mulally suggest the Swedish carmaker could be up for sale.
